Definition
The seller delivers when the goods, once unloaded from the arriving means of transport, are placed at the disposal of the buyer at the named place of destination. DPU replaced DAT in Incoterms 2020 and is the only rule requiring the seller to unload.

  • All carriage and export/transit formalities

  • Import clearance, duties and taxes
  • Any onward carriage
Insurance
No obligation; the seller bears risk until unloading and should cover it.

  • Terminal handling receipt where applicable
Best use cases
Deliveries into terminals, container yards or the buyer's site where the seller controls unloading equipment.
Common mistakes
  • Choosing DPU when the seller cannot arrange unloading at the site
  • Confusing DPU with the deleted DAT rule
  • Not naming the terminal precisely
